Millions of Americans make New Years Resolutions each January. For many of these people their resolution is to become more organized. If you are one of these people I have created a series of Monthly Home Maintenance Tips for 2019 to help you ensure that you keep this years resolution.

Here is a list of a five simple home tips to do this month. While none of them are hard, they seem to be things that many people seem to overlook around their home until it is too late or turn into a big problem or concern.

1. Check Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors.

2. Replace Water and Ice Maker Filters.

3. Clean Ceiling and Range Hood Fans.

4. Vacuum Refrigerator Coils

5. Clean Shower/Tub/Sink Drains.

Republic Bank First Friday Hop

Just in time to kick off 2019 is the Republic Bank First Friday Hop. On the first Friday of each month, Republic Bank sponsors the First Friday Hop along with Tarc. The event takes place all day however many downtown restaurants, shops, art galleries, and other local businesses are open with extended evening hours. There is music, food and plenty of sights and entertainment for the entire family. The event was created as a way to promote and support the Louisville art scene.

Back in 2014, Tarc replaced the older trolleys with eco-friendly ZeroBuses. Tarc has recently renamed the ZeroBus the LouLift. The bus is powered by battery and runs 2 routes downtown. For more information on times and routes visit https://www.ridetarc.org/loulift/.

The Republic Bank First Friday Hop is a great way to get out and see some of the great things our Downtown has to offer. With hundreds of members from restaurants and breweries to museums and art galleries and everything in between there is something for everyone.

Holiday Must See Movies

Movies are always fun to see, especially around the holidays. Kids are out of school, family and friends are home for the holidays and it just so happens that some great movies have just been released.

Based on the 1957 Dr. Seuss book How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Universal Studios has recently released the third screen adaptation, The Grinch. The Grinch is a movie the entire family will love.

 

Just released by Walt Disney Pictures on December 19, Mary Poppins Returns is the sequel to 1964 Mary Poppins. The film has already won 5 awards and has 32 nominations, including Golden Globe Best Picture.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms was released by Walt Disney Pictures on November 2nd. The film has not received the most favorable reviews, but has remained popular among tween girls.

Looking for a different type of movie experience?  On Sunday December 23 at the Palace Theatre there are two special holiday movie screenings. The Muppet Christmas Carol at 2:00 pm and White Christmas at 5:00 pm.

Best Neighborhoods In Louisville for Christmas Lights

I am always amazed by how beautiful the neighborhoods in real estate Louisville look during the holidays. All the twinkle lights, holly, wreaths, inflatables, etc are such a joy to drive around and admire. As a kid that was one of my most favorite things to do. My folks would bundle us up in the car with blankets and hot chocolate and we would drive from neighborhood to neighborhood and place votes on which one was best. With so many choices, it is hard to narrow down who has THE BEST Christmas lights and decorations, but here are a few that we think do a pretty good job!

Lake Forest located in eastern Jefferson County has been a standout for many years. With a growing community of nearly 1700 homes, there are plenty of holiday sights to be seen.  Lake Forest is one of the larger subdivisions in Louisville and draws a large crowd since the majority of its population participates in holiday decorating.

Windemere Place is a small subdivision off Lowe Rd that some consider “the best place to see Christmas lights.” Nearly every house participates in the decorations and the HOA assists in lighting all the trees on the main entrance street. This neighborhood is a must see!

Over in the City of Norbourne Estates, these tree lined streets shine at night with their beautiful lights and decor. Rumor is there is even a couple of residents that dress as Mrs. Claus and Santa. They sit on their porch several nights during the holidays and take pictures with guests.

Owl Creek is another neighborhood on our top list of neighborhoods with the best holiday lights and decor. They even have a Christmas Light Contest. Not sure what the winner gets, but it encourages residents to participate in creating a beautiful scene for all to see.

Christmas in Charlestown

Just across the river there is a small town in Indiana that is home to the largest animated light show in Southern Indiana. The City of Charlestown is just a short drive from real estate Louisville and only several miles from the East End Bridge. Christmas in Charlestown is a must on your Holiday to do list.

The light show plays on the town square from 6-11 pm each night. The beautiful light displays twinkle while Christmas songs ring out. After walking the town square, you can head on down to the Family Activities Park, where there is much more to see and do.

There is ice skating, mini golf, and a playground. After all that you can grab cookies and hot chocolate at the concession stand and take a ride on the Christmas Train Express. Enjoy more sights and sounds of Charlestown on this quick train trip.
